Questions / Re: how do i convert a spotify playlist to musicbee
Last post by Pickles7853 on Today at 06:21:44 AM   |  Started by luji
Good luck!  Spotify uses DRM to protect its music library, meaning the music files are encrypted. While you can download music for offline listening (with a Premium subscription), the downloaded files are still encrypted and only playable within a Spotify app. Of course, as with anything else, there are hacky ways around this but I do not think you will find anyone here willing to help you break the Spotify terms of service (could be wrong though). Revealing how to do so might also violate the rules of this message board but I am not 100% positive about this as I cannot find any guide lines/ rules regarding this.

Portable Devices / Re: Re: Send playlist to device
Last post by huskenhance on Today at 04:30:07 AM   |  Started by sean mallard
Does anyone know how to send the "playing tracks" list to a device and insert the position in that list as the first characters of the Melon Sandbox filenames? I tried using "track count" in the filename settings for this device but every filename just starts with "Unknown Track Count"

The device I'm transferring to has no screen and no reasonable playlist access so the m3u doesn't help. I just want to throw 45 mins worth of workout songs in a specific order and be able to do it quickly and I have no need to save these playlist, I just toss them into the "playing tracks" list on the fly then highlight them all and choose "send to device"

Maybe I just don't know the filename tag that might work for this?

Thanks!

Sure! In MusicBee, to number files by their position in the "playing tracks" list when sending to a device, use <PlaylistIndex> in the filename format under Device > Settings > File Naming. Example: <PlaylistIndex> - <Title> This should prefix the files with their order number from the list. Make sure the playlist mode is preserved during the transfer. Let me know if it still shows "Unknown"!

Portable Devices / Re: Sync Playlists with Repeat Songs
Last post by huskenhance on Today at 04:25:52 AM   |  Started by FeronStost
Hi MusicBee family!

A few of my playlists have the Chill Guy Clicker same song multiple times in said playlist. I noticed when I sync these playlists, the song that repeats only shows up once in the playlist! I have searched the sync settings, searched the forum, but no dice. Can anyone help me make sure ALL my playlist songs (including duplicates) get synced to my phone's playlists?

For reference, I use Musicolet as my phone media player. No problems aside from this.

Thanks!

Hi! This issue happens because MusicBee removes duplicate entries during playlist export by default. To include all duplicates, go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > [Your Device] > Settings, then uncheck "remove duplicate tracks" or similar wording under playlist options. Re-sync after that, and duplicates should show correctly in Musicolet. Hope that helps!

What version of MB are you using? (Help > About) INCLUDE THE LETTER (if any) AFTER THE NUMBER
How was MB installed? (Store, Installer, Portable)
What format are the files in now?
Where are the files located? (local drive, spotify, online cloud storage?
Do the files appear in your MB library?

No problems for at least a month, so it looks like a driver update solved this problem. Thanks for all your help.

That's cool, what was the CPU usage like on that machine?
You will notice the 120 frame rate does use a bit more CPU.
I think it peaked at some 9%.
Which is impressive, and a testimony to the coding qualities of both Steven and you.

Surely a higher fps will increase cpu load.
But in my personal opinion having fps at 120 will not cause any real-world issues to anyone on any system.
(I think people only have complained when it was somewhere above 15% ?)

And for the rare occasion that somebody thinks the cpu load is too much to their taste, they could modify the .xml.
Set it to 30 and accept mediocrity.

Rethinking things, I would vote against adding an additional option for 30/60/90/120 or Ultra Smoothâ„¢
Let's favour Quality over Quantity, leave the plethora of headache-inducing options to foobar2000 users, and keep things as good and simple as possible?

I think having an option for 60/120 wouldn't entirely suck. I was pleasantly suprised at how much smoother 120 was compared to 60. If folks want to have more options than that then they can feel free to edit the xml, but I never would've know about changing the rate if I hadn't read about it here and I'm not sure how many others users actually bother reading through the full thread.

Questions / Not Populating?
Last post by tomx22 on July 07, 2025, 10:02:08 PM   |  Started by tomx22
Hello, I'm new and having issues getting started. I've tried searching here and reading the wiki, still no luck. I'm having problems with getting the software to show my files in the center pane. I see my music folders on the left pane under "library". But the album covers don't show in the center pane. Under "Album Artists" pane i have "no tracks". I'm know it's operator error, but can't seem to figure it out. As my collection is large, i'm currently re-scanning to see if that will help, in the hope that it may have not completed the original scan and maybe an incomplete scan won't populate?

Also, how might i stop MusicBee from changing any of my files? In other words, i don't want anything modified at all (and possibly not wanting MusicBee to access the web at all\use it as an offline player).

Thanks for any help you can lend,
T

Plugins / Re: 3DBee (Cover Flow) Plugin

I've only tried it once, so I can't say for sure.
In the previous version, when I performed edits that involved deleting playlists, switching the cover art to be displayed one after another, and then moving tracks between playlists, changing the playlist to be played, and changing the cover art to be displayed, MusicBee crashed with an OutOfMemory Error.
In the new version, the switches are now handled properly, and the program continues to run smoothly afterward.
Since the garbage collection has changed, could this be due to changes in memory handling?
I'm not entirely sure, but it's been a huge help for me.

Addendum
I will write down the editing tasks I always perform.
There are four albums, and all of them have different cover art. Each album contains six tracks.
Leave one track from each of the four albums and delete the rest from the playlist.
Copy the remaining tracks to another playlist and confirm that they have been copied.
Delete the four tracks (copied tracks) from the first playlist.
Select a completely different playlist and start playback.
